Information about Ashtanga Yoga
Yoga as a body therapeutic foundation stretches and strengthens the bodies muscles, increases breathing pattern, removes blockages, helps with pain and nervousness, strengthens concentration, helps relaxation and helps one feel more balanced. Yoga is „body cleansing“, stress management and motivation training all in one.
In Indian philosophy, yoga enhances the connections between mind, body and soul and it’s highest power. Yoga can guide humans to a healthy, balanced lifestyle. Practicing regulary brings more power, flexibility and endurance as well as inner balance.
Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic yoga style with exact body and breathing excercises. Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, the current guru of this system, is being followed by his grandson Sharat Rangaswamy. The special aspect of ashtanga is its coordination of breathing techniques (ujjai breathing) with precise physical movements, activation of internal muscles (bandhas) and focus of the gaze (drisiti).
Vinyasa, the syncronization of breath with movement, decribes the continious flow of asana in rhythm with powerful ujjai breathing.
Mysore style is the traditional way ashtanga yoga is taught, rooted in Mysore, India. You will be introduced step by step to the correct order and practice of the asana sequence. You will also learn to practice according to your individual breathing rhythm, dependant upon your daily condition, to help establish your home practice.
One to one yogasessions
I offer one-on-one lessons, the way Yoga has traditionally been taught. My body work sessions are by individual appointments that fit your schedule. Continued support leads to a transformation of the body’s old habits. You are the one who determines the pace towards feeling comfortable with your own body and body image.
Yoga group session
Likewise, the aim of the groupwork, is to increase self-awareness, to learn personal responsibility and to add a measure of precision to your practice. It’s not about a rote performance but about developing your strength and personality.
I teach traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga (Mysore Style) in “Über den Linden – Etage für Yoga und Körpertherapie”, Lippmannstrasse 53, 22769 Hamburg.
